A Maryland police officer was suspended Tuesday after a video showed him entering the back seat of a police car with a woman while in uniform.
The Prince George’s County Police Department said they identified the officer after they became aware of the video “circulating on social media with one of our officers” and opened an investigation, the police department said on social media.
“His police powers are now suspended as the investigation continues,” police said.
The 47-second video, which was posted this week and viewed more than 2 million times on TikTok, shows a uniformed officer hugging and kissing a woman in a parking lot before the two enter the back seat of the police car together while children can be heard playing in the background.
Prince George’s County police told USA TODAY that there is "no further information" at this time.
Prince George’s County police union president on investigation
Angelo Consoli, the Prince George’s County police union president, said the union is aware that the police department is investigating after the video went viral, The Washington Post reported.
“We support our officers during any and all investigations, and ask that people reserve any judgment until the facts come out,” Consoli told The Post. “At which time, we’ll reevaluate our position.”
